Is this an equinox ev parking issue?

I pulled over today, engaged the parking brake, and opened the driver's door, even though it was already off, my Equinox EV flashed a notification to prompt me to shift into park. It appears that because I had the parking brake engaged, it put itself in park. Has anyone else noticed this?

I always shift to Park and then hit the power button on the screen to shut the car down. I know it;s supposed to turn off automatically, but I like double-checking just in case I space out or something. It's kind of weird how using the parking brake seems to do the same thing as just putting it in Park, though.

I get that, it’s good to double-check. It’s odd that the parking brake automatically shifts it to park, but I guess it’s a helpful backup.
